Spravato (esketamine) nasal spray is an FDA Approved treatment, that in conjunction with an oral antidepressant, could result in a very effective treatment of depression in adults who have tried other antidepressant medicines but have not benefited from them (treatment-resistant depression). It is the first new mechanism of action to treat depression that has come out in over 30 years.
Spravato has proven to have a rapid antidepressant response, specially when added on to an antidepressant and the rest of your regimen.The typical course of treatment is twice a week for four weeks then generally once a week, then continued 2 to 4 times a month for maintenance, for as long as it is needed.

Spravato is administered through nasal inhalation and therefore it must be given in an approved Spravato Treatment Center. Once applied, you will require between 2 to 3 hours of medical monitoring before you are allowed to go home. You cannot drive for the rest of the day after receiving the treatment, therefore it is important that you have a family member or a friend to give you a ride back home. There might be some other physical effects that occur during the 2 hours after the treatment is given, but all should resolve before you are returning home.
